Chris George grew up in the North East of England and didn’t discover the joys of "real" cheese until his mid twenties whilst working part-time at London’s Neal’s Yard Dairy to help fund his post graduate studies. His academic career very quickly took second place to the delicious array of cheeses he was selling – and eating – every weekend in the shop and Chris has worked full-time for Neal’s Yard since the summer of 1996.
His roles have included retail, cheese maturation, wholesale and export. More recently, he set up and ran Neal’s Yard Dairy’s tasting venue in London’s Borough Market hosting educational events for the general public, industry professionals and Neal’s Yard Dairy staff. He also travels regularly to visit producers throughout the UK and abroad. Chris has worked in TV and radio. He has judged the British Cheese Awards, World Cheese Awards and The Great Yorkshire Show. Chris has also taught courses at The School of Artisan Food in Nottinghamshire.
He is currently on sabbatical, spending time in London and Brooklyn, New York.
